INKTober Day 20: Tentacles

My husband requested I draw something with tentacles for one of my INKTober drawings.

I have been working with the Tachikawa comic pens since Day 10, and I LOVE them!! I used a couple different Maru nibs for this drawing, one a bit stiffer than the other that creates really fine lines. They work well with Speedball ink.

Ironically I tried the Speedball nibs a while back, and was not impressed with the way they work.

But working with the nibs and ink takes me back to my art classes with Mr. Wong in high school. Had a generic pen nib, and he later gave me a croquill pen, which is similar to the Maru, but larger.

Someday I’ll do another pointillism drawing. All those dots…

INKtober Day 13: Monday The Slug

For my Day 13 submission of INKtober, I present to you Monday the Slug.

Monday doesn’t like the day of the week he es named for any more than we do. Saying you have “a case of the Mondays” when he is around will hurt his feelings.

Monday could use a hug.

INKtober Day 12: Happy Birthday To Me

In the past few years I’ve had a tradition of drawing a skull or a cupcake in my coworkers’ birthday cards that were passed around at the office. For my own birthday, and Day 12 of INKtober, I decided to do a skull cupcake…

I broke in the soft Maru pen nib for the inking. It’s a very versatile nib. I am still coming to grips with how these pens are so versatile in their line widths, etc.
Today I was at Flying Colors Comics with my husband, and I got into a conversation with one of the guys who works there about comic inking. He gave me the names of some artists to check out wth their techniques.
I’m not a comic geek like my husband is, but it’s a lot of fun to go into the comic stores and be able to talk to the experts about how comics are created. I did a lot of flatting and some color work a long time ago, and did some freelance color correcting for Viz in San Francisco… I have fun with the behind the scenes things.
